Why did God cast the Devil out of Heaven? Why didn’t he just kill him and his fallen angels?

I’m not a religious person but the symbolism of good vs. evil speaks to one important aspect of life… “free will”! If we don’t have free will we are not and will never be anything but pre-programmed robots. Free will gives the ability to solicit eternal humanity!
