I appreciate your question and this question is particularly interesting to me because no one has ever asked me about this topic before.
There is drug use out there, "solamenta," just like people on the earth use drugs. Out there, just as on the earth, there are natural drugs and there are synthetic drugs. Anyone who has ever had an OBE or an NDE and has experienced that wonderful feeling of well-being, is not necessarily surrounded by love, as it is commonly defined, they are drugged!
Drugs, both natural and synthetic have a place in our life. Anyone who has ever been seriously injured or suffered from chronic pain, either physical or psychological, would most likely agree. When we are in serious pain, no one asks if the drug that takes their pain away is either natural or synthetic. If the drug accomplishes its objective it is a life saver.
Drugs to include alcohol, which is a synthetic drug by the way, can be healthy for some in a social situation as well. Drug and alcohol use can be a wonderful thing when its use is kept in perspective, when it is not abused!
Our guides are always trying to talk to us and drug and alcohol use can interfere with that signal. If the signal between our guides and ourselves is interfered with too much, then we can get ourselves in real trouble. We need to be cautious when we use drugs and or alcohol.
Our guides are always trying to get our attention and they will use drugs or anything else, both in a good way and in a bad way in order to do it. If drugs put us in a state of mind where we can listen, then our guides will take advantage of that. Anytime where we are pensive and thoughtful, gives our guides an opportunity to talk to us, they are always seeking a way to get us in a place (or state of mind) where we are alone, in solitude, meditative-etc. They want us to have our social time, our fun time, but they also need us to have our alone time.
I would like to say that we should never do anything that puts others in danger like drive when we are impaired. In my humble opinion, as long as we don't violate another's civil rights, we are within our rights given to us by God; however, I would like to say that God's boundaries do not help us if we break the laws given by man!
If we find ourselves using drugs to escape those things that we need to face up to, we are not listening. Sometimes we need to relieve some pain to get us over the top of a painful situation but if we are in pain all of the time, we probably need to look elsewhere for a solution.
I hope this helps-.
