Response
J.S. Thompson’s Response:
The universe has been around “forever”, evolving, so one can imagine how advanced it is. I would expect that it knows everything and I also suspect that it would want us to know everything as well. We are a product of it, not the other way around! Everything that the universe does… is completely logical and purposeful. Everything evolves in one direction to a logical goal. Free will is what separates us. We have free will because if we didn’t, we would be nothing more than robots that have been programmed to do certain tasks, completely incapable of evolving. Free will is a clue that tells us something about why we are here and where we are going. Free will is how we learn as “individuals”.
The universe is like an evolution machine. It’s so precise that we can set our watch by it. It is a mathematical marvel! All of the information, all knowledge is inside of us and accessible; however, the problem with having this information is interpretation. We must be able to understand it before it makes any sense to us. If we do not have the foundation for interpretation, then… the knowledge available to us becomes nothing more than beliefs, primitive religions, new age fluff, mythology and superstition. Knowledge is the key!
We can seek out this knowledge but regardless of whether we actively pursue it or not, it is always teaching us! It wants us to learn how to live as immortal people which is what we are! Immortality is no piece of cake. It sounds like a great thing but it is the most difficult thing or most beautiful thing we will ever experience. When we cycle back to the places we came from when our earth time is up, we become aware of our immortality and for a while it is great! However, as time goes on, it becomes a source of anxiety. Let me give you an example; while we are here on the earth, when we become depressed or when life hands us a bad hand, we think about death and we see death as a final frontier; an experience which offers us another chance, a new beginning and it is. However, when we are there and we know now know we are immortal, when we get depressed, we do not have this ray of hope. When we get depressed there, the thought occurs to us that this feeling could last “forever”!
When we leave the earth, we do not change, we leave with all of the good and the bad that we had on the earth. If we don't learn here, we learn there and if we don't learn there, we come back here. We’ll get it eventually but we could save ourselves a great deal of pain if we would just learn here what we need to learn and develop the character that we need to live there in an immortal community. What is it we need to learn; self-discipline and control and respect for ourselves and others; very simple but so elusive for many of us.
Inside of all of us, is a great deal of communication happening. God is talking to us, true but there are many other voices talking to us as well. There are good people talking to us and not so good and sometimes, even evil people are talking to us. One might wonder, with all of this talking that we must be very popular people but the reality is this; there are many more people there than there are here and they are all looking for something to do. This is one of the problems with immortality, for those who have not learned their lessons; they talk to us and they try to influence us to do this or that. Who we listen to, is a matter of free will. Most of us would rather listen to someone telling us we don't have to go to work or do difficult things. We want to hear that it’s ok to lay out or to do an assortment of things that we shouldn't do, rather than those who are trying to get us to learn self-control or self-discipline. It’s difficult to stay in shape, to lose weight or to do anything that requires us to work hard or overcome obstacles.
Sometimes the people who talk to us are intelligent and can actually teach us but also, there are those who don’t know anything at all. Those who can do and those who can’t, become philosophers.
Hope this helps and thanks for sharing your inquiry.
